Finally, the extent of cooperation between the local government and other states is examined. In conducting cross-border business activity, these reports provide the reader with a sense of the multiple jurisdictions that a business must consider within the scope of how laws from various states interact and overlap. The countries covered include: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the EC, Israel, Japan, Singapore and the United States.

The second part of the book offers several proposals for effectively managing these overlapping competition policy regimes. Written by top academics and practitioners, the proposals render some of the most important current thinking on the topic.

The country reports and the expert policy proposals together provide a unique perspective on international competition policy and the challenges of the international competition policy regime.

About the Author

Andrew T. Guzman is Professor of Law, Director of the Advanced Law Degree Programs, and Associate Dean for International and Executive Education at Berkeley Law School, University of California, Berkeley. Professor Guzman holds a J.D. and Ph.D. (economics) from Harvard University. He has written extensively on international trade, international competition policy, international regulatory matters, foreign direct investment and public international law. He is the author of How International Law Works from Oxford University Press and International Trade Law (with Joost Pauwelyn) from Wolters Kluwer and co-editor of the Research Handbook of International Economic Law (with Alan Sykes) from Edward Elgar. Professor Guzman is on the board of editors of several academic journals and is a member of the Academic Council of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration.

Best Cookbook for Kids I've Found!

A few years ago, I searched for a kids' cookbook that I could love and that my kids could enjoy and follow easily. I was so surprised by the variety of cookbooks and the poorly written directions they included. In particular, I remember looking at Paula Deen's cookbook for children. The small print, light type, and colored background... I wanted a better cookbook for my kids! For me, cookbooks are inspiring (even if I almost never follow a recipe exactly)! I ended up finding one that I loved-- Kids Cook!, a Williamson Kids Can book that is now back in print. But, there are no photographs in the cookbook. My kids love color and they are not drawn to that cookbook. On the other hand, a new cookbook arrived at our doorstep last week and my kids hovered over it--drinking in the recipes, excited to cook!

That cookbook is Cooking Class by Deanna F. Cook. A few years ago, Storey published two cookbooks for kids about sewing that I like: Sewing School and Sewing School 2. With this cookbook for kids, Storey followed the same format and editing style--which I loved back then and love again with this new cookbook.

Cooking Class is divided into seven sections that cover the basics, meals, snacks, and of course--dessert! The Basics section is what I have found lacking in most kids' cookbooks, but in this one, it is done well. Good tips, good pictures, and even a page on how to clean up! I like that they added two pages on how to fold a fancy napkins and setting the table. I have a feeling that our next holiday meal will have some beautifully folded napkins!

From there, the recipe sections begin. The recipes are divided into 1, 2, or 3 spoons. 1 spoon recipes can be made by kids themselves. 2 spoon recipes might need an older sibling or parent's help. 3 spoon recipes use sharp knives and the oven/stove, so an adult is most likely needed for kids under 10 or 11. My daughters are 9 and 11 and are uncomfortable with the oven and can turn on the gas stove, but usually prefer me to do that.

The recipes are easy to follow and have great pictures which give clear instructions. The reading level (because of the size of the type) is probably 3rd grade and above. I know that my first grade son can read most of the words in these directions, but the size of the type would be a stumbling block for him.

Our first recipe we tried from the cookbook was the grab and go granola bars. I was a little skeptical about how my kids would like them since they aren't baked, but my whole family ended up loving them! I think next time, though, I am going to try and mix the chocolate chips into the mixture and then press into the pan so that the chocolate chips are mixed throughout the bars and aren't just on top.

I suspect that within a few months every recipe in this cookbook will have been tried by my kids!

Aside from the recipes, the cookbook includes some fun stickers, place cards, and conversation questions for the dinner table. These are of high quality and my kids have enjoyed them all.

I think you get the idea... when choosing a great kids' cookbook, this one tops my list! (and has been added to my list of favorite cookbooks.)

This book is so easy to follow it makes me look like the best mom ever! I don't know what I ever did without it! Seriously! Awesome book if you want to teach your kids how to cook. Wonderful homeschool resource.

Cooking Class cookbook

I got this for my 8 year old for Christmas and she loves it. She loves looking through it and finding a recipe for us to try. Also, she's more likely to eat stuff that she normally wouldn't if she's involved in its creation :) I remember my mom getting me my first cookbook which I still have and love. I still use the banana bread recipe! Happy with this sweet cookbook.

About the Author

Rodney Mullen is a former freestyle world champion with the best contest record in professional skating. He’s credited with laying the foundation for street skating and was voted the 2002 Skater of the Year. And he hates horses. He lives in Los Angeles, California, with his wife.

Sean Mortimer was the editor of Skate -- boarder magazine and coauthored Hawk: Occupation: Skateboarder with Tony Hawk. He lives in Oceanside, California, with his wife and son.

Not just for skate fans

What a great story. For those of you who don't know, Rodney Mullen is arguably the most influential and important skater in modern street skating. This story isn't so much about a misfit becoming one the greatest skaters of all time, as it is about a person's struggle to win the respect and love of a demanding and intimidating father, who can't accept him for who he is. This is a sad, courageous, and inspiring story that is most of all, a very human story. A very quick read that's hard to put down. There's not a boring page to be found.

The Mutt: How to Skateboard and Not Kill Your Self

My name is Michael D., I am 14 years old and I’ve been riding skateboards since I was 7 years old.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read funny skateboarding stories and has a book report due.

I liked how Rodney and his co-author broke the chapters up into different sections. The chapters are long but the section headers were funny which made me want to keep reading. Aspiring Plagiarist was one of my favorites.

He wrote the story like he talks; it’s not a dry instruction manual. Rodney Mullen was super honest about everything including a few illegal things.

Rodney talked his dad into letting him skateboard. He waited till the right time to ask his dad for a skateboard. Rodney’s dad was a surgeon and saw to many kids getting hurt skateboarding. Rodney promised to wear all of the safety equipment, and his dad said yes.

Rodney and his family worked together to build a half-pipe so he could practice tricks at home. A few weeks later they had to tear it down after the neighbors complained about the noise.

The surf shop his sister worked at sponsored Rodney. Instead of getting paid he got discounts at the shop for his skateboard. But at 13, that’s pretty cool.
