About the Author
Sharon Vaughn (Ph.D., University of Arizona) holds the H. E. Hartfelder/ Southland Corporation Regents Chair in Human Development and is the Executive Director of the Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk at the University of Texas. She is a recipient of the CEC Research Award and the AERA Special Education SIG distinguished researcher award. She was the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Learning Disabilities and the coeditor of Learning Disabilities Research and Practice. Dr. Vaughn is the author of numerous books and research articles that address the reading and social outcomes of students with learning difficulties including Teaching Students Who Are Exceptional, Diverse, and At Risk in the General Education Classroom with Jeanne Schumm and Candace Bos (5th ed., Allyn & Bacon). Currently she is the principal or coprincipal investigator on several Institutes for Education Science, National Institute for Child Health and Human Development, and Office of Special Education Programs research grants investigating effective interventions for students with learning disabilities and behavior problems as well as students who are English language learners.

A valuable tool for curriculum development.

This textbook is of great quality. There are a lot of evidence-based practices detailed in the text. The chapters are well-organized and clearly communicated. A rationale is provided for each technique chosen to instruct students with behavioral and learning problems. This is especially important for those who are special educators. There is a growing accountability to make sure practices are taught that are backed up by a vigorous body of evidence.
This book is a great resource. It would be difficult for the educator to find all of this information on his or her own. This is a treasury of techniques that have been proven to work. There are engaging activities listed at the end of each chapter. There are lessons in decoding, fluency, and comprehension. The analysis of reading instruction is extremely valuable. It is the primary focus of the book. There are other good sections regarding teaching content-area vocabulary, writing, spelling, and math.
The print resource is a valuable tool. There is an e-text version available as well. That source is good in that the video links can be accessed directly from the text. The account I bought is only available for six months, so I decided it was wise to buy the print version as well. This tool will serve as a guide for developing and modifying lessons for years to come.

This book was really expensive to be just an overview of research. Students can read the power points from professors and research scholarly articles themselves and save almost $100.

Take business somewhere else

This textbook came as a loose leaf book, so now I have to get a binder for it AND it didn't come with an access code so I cant get onto the extra online content. Not to mention I paid for expedite shipping and it took a week to get here. Unsatisfied!
